Study Media & Communication

Study in media and communication is centred on the distribution of creative content through understanding the practicalities and influence of the media industry. QUT media and communication courses boast a genuine mix of real-world applications and an established academic reputation. Academic staff are actively engaged in leading-edge research.

Graduates have specialist skills including media research and media policy, and an understanding of the diversity of media outlets including television radio, print, the internet, mobile technologies, movies, advertising, public relations and music.

Career Outcomes

Graduates use their skills for a variety of professional functions across all industry sectors. Many work in marketing communications, public relations or corporate communications. Others apply their broad media knowledge in the media function of advertising, either as sales executives for media outlets or as media planners and buyers for advertising agencies. Graduates also find employment in media policy development in the public sector and private enterprise. Pathways exist to prepare you for further study including honours.

The Brisbane Media Map

The Brisbane Media Map outlines the topography of Brisbane's media industry. This online resource features a directory of media companies that belong to Brisbane's growing media landscape. Current media issues and prominent members of the industry are explored.

The Brisbane Media Map is a valuable resource for anyone interested in Brisbane's media industries including students, job seekers, potential investors and industry professionals. The project is created and updated annually by Media and Communication students from the Creative Industries Faculty, at Queensland University of Technology.
