Tom Dixon scholarship
Outstanding students undertaking full-time doctoral-level research in the media and communication discipline are encouraged to apply for the Tom Dixon Scholarship.
The Tom Dixon Scholarship is a top-up award for students currently in receipt of another scholarship or award.
The Scholarship will provide $5,000 per year for the final two years of study to supplement an existing scholarship or award.
Conditions
The scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who has successfully completed his/her confirmation of PhD candidature. The Tom Dixon Scholarship will be awarded at the beginning of the second year and will be held for the final two years of candidature, subject to satisfactory performance. The successful recipient will be required to provide annual progress reports on their thesis and meet with the donor at least once per year.
Selection process
Prior to confirmation, candidates must nominate their intention to apply for the Tom Dixon Scholarship by contacting the Faculty Research Office. Those wishing to be considered must complete their confirmation seminar by 31 March of their second year. The recipient will be selected by a selection panel against key selection criteria and the successful candidate will be notified by 30 April of that year.
To be eligible for the Tom Dixon Scholarship, candidates must:
1. Be researching media and communication in the QUT Creative Industries Faculty at a doctoral level
2. Successfully complete a PhD confirmation seminar
3. Hold another form of scholarship or award
4. Be studying full-time at QUT.
The Award will be made by the following selection panel:
- Director, Research, Creative Industries Faculty
- Head, Media and Communication, Creative Industries Faculty
- A nominee from the Research and Commercialistion Committee, Creative Industries Faculty
- Emeritus Professor Tom Dixon or an appropriate nominee.
Recommendations will be made on the following key selection criteria:
1. Potential of the research project to make an outstanding contribution to the field.
2. The candidate’s energetic participation in the research culture of the Faculty.
3. The candidate’s orderly and timely progression through to the confirmation milestone.
* Support for part-time study will be on a pro-rata basis.
