One of the sharp distinctions between life at university as compared with life at school is the shift of responsibility to students. At QUT we expect students to be self-reliant, independent and responsible in all aspects of university life. You are now considered to be a mature person, capable of assuming responsibility for your own actions.
While lecturers do not check up on students, you are expected to organise your social and work commitments so that your academic work is not jeopardised. Remember, the results of assessment throughout your university career have far-reaching repercussions. While we encourage you to enjoy your time at university, we are also mindful that your time at university will ultimately impact on your future life.
It is your responsibility to make yourself familiar with the Student Rules and Policies as set out in the QUT Handbook.
Some units may have additional requirements. The lecturer/unit coordinator will inform you at the commencement of the semester.
It is your responsibility to keep your official student data up-to-date. Remember to inform the university officially (and on the correct form) if you do any of the following: change your name; change your address; change your enrolment.
Please ensure you access the QUT Student Services website for further information on your responsibilities.
Enrolment Matters
QUT has strict rules and timelines, particularly for enrolment matters. If you do not meet these deadlines, you may find that you will have a HECS liability for a unit you do not wish to continue and that you receive a fail grade for a unit you did not withdraw from correctly, or that you are ineligible to sit an examination for a unit you did not enrol in correctly and/or a delay in the completion of documentation for your graduation. Make sure you keep a record of your current enrolments for reference. If you wish to change your enrolment, you must do so online, via your Personal Profile accessible on QUT Virtual.
Library Charges
Inter-Library Loans accrue a charge, which must be paid for by the student. Any such charges received by the School will be forwarded to the student.
Exam Matters
It is your responsibility to find out when your exams are to take place and where, and to also be available for the whole end of semester exam period. You must also check for exam timetable clashes as soon as the exam timetable is released.
Assignment Matters
It is your responsibility to hand in assignments by the due date. All assignments must be accompanied by an Assignment Minder Submission Form. Students are expected to keep a copy of their assignment in case of a dispute.
Please read the Creative Industries Faculty Assignment Information (CIFAI) document for details on assignment submission and responsibilities. The CIFAI document is available from the Blackboard site for any Creative Industries unit under the ‘Assessment’ tab.
