Executive Dean's Welcome
Welcome to QUT's Creative Industries Faculty.
At the award-winning $60million Creative Industries Precinct at Kelvin Grove we are successfully building a community that brings together learning, research, showcasing and commercial activities that infuse each other with energy and excellence.
The new precinct has already been home to a series of impressive events produced by graduating students from the Creative Industries Faculty. A fashion show was hosted by the first ever Queensland fashion graduates, our acting and technical production students presented their talents in the Loft, while our journalism students got to work in the studios and post-production facilities in the Hub to produce a variety of online, television and radio broadcasts. Our music and sound students also utilised the precinct for their successful Escape music and sound event – to name just a few!
These talented students are reaping the rewards of their dedication with many of their success stories making news. Revisit this website to hear the stories of where our graduates are as we keep in touch with them and highlight their achievements.
Research continues to grow with the faculty. We are home to over 200 higher degree research students. The faculty is fast establishing itself as a leader in the creative arts and humanities through basic and applied research, as well as research training and a lively series of events.
Helping drive us forward, we have welcomed a series of high profile visitors and adjunct professors to the faculty. International cultural and creative industries policy expert Kate Oakley presented a series of master classes on building creative regions across the country and the celebrated Chinese choreographer Xing Liang created a new work for graduating dance students. Other visitors include Professor Toby Miller, world-renowned scholar and commentator; Professor Mike Rubbo, award winning documentary maker; Don Finn, casting director; Tessa Ross, head of Film Four, Channel 4 UK's film and drama unit; composer and music scholar Richard Vella and former Brisbane Festival director Tony Gould.
Information on our initiatives will be showcased on the faculty website. It will profile students' work, keep the community up to date with events happening across our faculty and publish relevant news as it breaks.
I encourage you to revisit our website regularly to keep up to date on what is happening in Brisbane's newest creative community.
